Tips for Storing Furniture

Practical ideas for protecting furniture while it is in storage.

Store furniture clean and dry

Before placing furniture into storage, make sure it is clean and fully dry. Damp furniture, wet cushions or items brought in straight from a wet van can increase the risk of condensation or odours.

Protect surfaces

Use furniture blankets, cardboard corners or breathable covers to protect wooden surfaces, glass and polished items. Avoid sealing damp items inside plastic wrapping for long periods.

Take furniture apart where sensible

Beds, tables and larger furniture can often be stored more safely and efficiently if they are dismantled. Keep screws, brackets and small parts in a labelled bag taped to the item.

Keep important items accessible

If you expect to visit your container, place items you may need near the front and leave a small access route where possible.
